I think there are a few people, very modern people (not antique folk) who still pick ear corn in Wisconsin and Iowa, but don't use hand-crank shellers. I could write lots of stories about hunting in ear-corn-harvested corn-stalk fields and the plethora of wildlife that survived the winter in them. Also, for your interest, I play the pump organ at the little St. John the Divine Anglican Church in Quick, B.C., near our home. It works fine and we have a musician who tunes it regularly.
Excellent post. I think the National Trust for Historic Preservation should see it.
Next time you come to PA I think you would enjoy all the historic sites of the Moravians in Bethlehem!
